West Lancashire Yacht Club is proud to be part of the RYA (Royal Yachting Association) OnBoard, Champion Club and Sailability programmes. We can take youngsters from absolute beginners to World Champion level if they want, whilst having fun, keeping fit and learning new skills.
We run training for youngsters aged between 6-16 years on Saturdays from 1-3pm for beginners and 3-5pm for the more experienced youngsters. The instructors are all RYA qualified and all involved are volunteers and members of the Club. The season runs from April to October with a few exceptions. We know families are busy and have all sorts of commitments, so we don't expect people to come every week. Taster sessions are provided for the first 5 weeks at a cost of £5 for each session, thereafter you would need to join the Club and the cost is reduced to £2.50 per session. A responsible adult needs to stay with the youngsters all the time they are at the club and we encourage adults to get involved.
Should you choose to come along, please remember that sailing is a water sport and you do get wet. So the sailors need clothes and shoes they don't mind getting wet, a change of clothing, a towel and a bag to put wet clothing in.
Please email before coming for the first time to check availability.
We encourage youngsters to join in racing. We have club racing on Thursday nights and Sundays. We enter team events such as 6 hour OnBoard event at Hollingworth Lake, Southport Sailing Club's Junior 12 hour race and our own 24 hour race and we host the Lloyd Hayes open meeting, which part of the RYA North West Junior Traveller Series.
